By, Karen Biafora
Shorewood Kiwanis needs you, the classic car enthusiast that lovingly restores these beauties and loves to show them off! What is a classic car cruise without cool cars and amazing drivers? The Harper Charity Cruise is a fun, family-friendly place to show off your favorite ride! Any drivers/cars are welcome with no registration or fees. The Cruise runs on Harper Avenue in St. Clair Shores, between Old Eight Mile Road and Martin/Bayside Road.
For over two decades, The Shorewood Kiwanis Harper Charity Cruise attracts drivers and attendees from miles away and the residents of St. Clair Shores turn out in droves.
The Shorewood Kiwanis Harper Charity Cruise is a premier summer event in the city of St. Clair Shores, and the only 100% charity classic car cruise in Michigan*! Shorewood solicits sponsorships from the generous businesses and supporters of this event and each year and these donations allow them to produce an event of ever-increasing size and popularity. This non-commercial car cruise is an opportunity for Shorewood Kiwanis to raise funds for the charity partners that participate along the route by selling official Harper Charity Cruise T-shirts and collecting donations. Every person making a contribution to one of their many canisters receives a green and white “Harper Avenue” street sign placard sponsored each year by Cruis’News.
Any cruisers, who need a break, are welcome at the parties up and down the route that evening. Watch for the “open party” vs. “private party” signs – “open” parties are open to the public; help thank these sponsoring businesses by frequenting their establishments. Many parties are “private”, customer appreciation events.
Any funds raised above and beyond expenses and donations to the charity partners are used to support the numerous community service projects and donations – are funneled by Shorewood Kiwanis right back into the community they serve so well. “Improving the World, One Community, One Child at a Time since 1959”, Shorewood produces this annual summer event – an event so enjoyable the attendees forget that each and every one is performing an act of community service. Every dollar donated, every T-shirt purchased and every dollar spent with the businesses that sponsor this amazing event, is an act of giving back to your community.
The Charity Workers wear white volunteer T-shirts. This group of amazing volunteers is made up of Shorewood members and their families, city residents and members of the very organizations who receive funds every year from the proceeds of this event. Remember, only individuals wearing the official volunteer shirt are allowed to solicit donations at events or in the crowd. For your donation, you will receive an “I GAVE” yellow sticker. Wear it proudly so they know that you have already donated!
Once a year, The Harper Charity Cruise draws attendees, drivers, and families together for a few hours of fun, awe and community service! It’s a not miss event! Sponsorship opportunities are available now but it close. Car clubs, businesses related to classic car restoration may want to become a sponsor, and see your logo on the back of the official Cruise shirt, by showing the community that you care and promote your organizations at the same time. Logo sponsors are mentioned in print, on the Internet and on the shirt. Visit the home page at www.shorewoodkiwanis.org to view a cool video of the 2016 cruise. Want to sponsor? Drop a line to email@example.com. Visit www.harpercruise.org for up to date information and Facebook – Shorewood Kiwanis Club of Michigan. Remember, even though it’s a blast, it’s all about the kids and giving back!
