Cookies 4 Troops

My name is Elizabeth Popovich, and I am a Senior Girl Scout. For the last seven years it has been a special project of mine to collect donations to send Girl Scout Cookies to our brave men and women serving in our Military overseas. I ask family, neighbors, and businesses for donations that are used to purchase Girl Scout Cookies that will be distributed by a non-profit organization such as Operation Care Package or Soldier’s Angels, to our Troops serving overseas. Using the nonprofit means the cookies are distributed to our Military at no cost to the Girl Scouts, this means 100% of your donation goes to buy the cookies.

In 2010 I came up with the idea to write a letter explaining what 1 was trying to do, and take it to local businesses asking for a donation. That first year I was able to collect $1,128, which was enough to send 282 boxes to our Soldiers. Since then, I have worked harder and last year, with the support of a lot of people like you, I was able to collect $32,052, which sent 8,013 boxes of cookies to our Soldiers. In the last seven years, I have raised $102,192, enough to send 25,548 boxes of cookies to our Troops. Over the years I have received letters from the Troops serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, Germany, Japan, Alaska, and right here at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, some including pictures of them enjoying the cookies that were sent to them. They were very grateful and wanted to thank everyone that thought about them. This is a great way of showing our Troops how much we appreciate them. I have met so many Veterans, ranging from Korea, to Vietnam, to the Middle East. All of them told me how important it is to our Soldiers to know we are thinking of them, and appreciate what they are doing for all of us here at home. One thing that I have learned from doing this is that people LOVE to support our Troops.

A case of Cookies contains 12 boxes, and costs $48. I thank those of you that have supported this great cause in the past, and hope you will do so again this year. If you want to support this great cause, please consider donating a single case, or several cases as some have done in the past. You can also help by sharing this information with anyone you think would be interested. Any amount donated goes a long way to sending our Soldiers a treat from home!
