The Recipients of the
2019 CRUIS’NEWS AWARD WINNERS
The “Spirit Of Rodding” Award
This prestigious award is presented to a car guy or gal who busted the knuckles and performed a majority if not all the work themselves in their garage, barn, or driveway.
I chose a “young gun” who found his 1949 Ford sedan in a dilapidated barn back in September 2018. Through a ton of blood, sweat and tears he performed all the work himself and was able to get the Ford’ 392 flathead V-8 running. After countless hours of work, his barn find (see pic) became show worthy and was entered in the Autorama Extreme for 2019.
The three-on-the-tree’49 belongs to the very cordial and appreciative 22 year old Scott Salwa (pictured with his ride) who hails from Dearborn, MI. Congratulations to this young car guy who will carry the Hot Rod torch into the future!
The “COOL CAR” Award
The Cruis’news gives this “Cool Car” award to a vehicle that is one that make you take a second, third and maybe even a forth look back. This year’s recipient is Eric Luna from Mason, Mi. His 1962 International Harvester Metro Mite named the “Thread Shed” step van. This ride made heads spin, it is slammed to the ground barely showing the very cool orange “smoothies” that are a very nice touch. The van also has an eye-catching patina paint job. Eric and his crew shoehorned a 1,300 HP-6.0 LS small block twin turbo into this hard-to-reach engine compartment with millimeters to spare. Eric owns Luna Upholstery in Mason MI (hence the name “Thread Shed”) needless to say, has a top-notch upholstered interior in this one of a kind hot rod.
I was promised a ride when they get any kinks worked out so the front wheels stay on the ground when leaving stop lights. A job well done by the Luna guys and gals, Congratulations on a well-deserved award.
